How does the decimation function on the AT84AD001B Dual 8-bit 1Gsps or the TS83102G0B 10-bit 2Gsps ADC work?

The decimation function (by a factor of 4, 8, 16 or 32 depending on the device and its settings) allows the user to test rapidly the device functionality by running it at full speed but picking only 1 data out of 4/8/16 or 32 (selection of the decimation factor). Therefore, there is no need for a very high speed acquisition system.
