Based at our head office in Chelmsford, Essex, the Manufacturing Engineer is required to support CCD manufacturing on a day-to-day basis. You will ensure that process, training and H&S documentation are in place. You will be the first port of call for issues arising on the production line and should complete initial failure analysis for both production and customer return devices. The Manufacturing Engineer will support the manufacturing manager and team leaders in their drive to improve productivity, yield and cycle time. You will take the responsibility for accepting new products / processes into production from the development group. You will be required to work closely with the project management group, as a significant proportion of the packaging area work is project based.

Main Areas of Accountability:

  • To ensure that all process, training and H&S documentation is in place and up-to-date
  • To accept new products / processes from Development in to Manufacturing, ensuring that all of the requirements for manufacture are completed
  • To provide training, coaching and support to operators
  • To resolve day to day operating issues with processes and equipment
  • To monitor yield, productivity and cycle time for the products within own area and make recommendations for improvements
  • To carry out failure analysis of production and returned devices and to participate in / drive continuous improvement activities

Essential Experience:

  • HNC/Degree in Engineering or Physics or equivalent experience
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing principles
  • Semiconductor knowledge
  • Experience of wire bonding, fine work and clean room environments
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent problem solving skills, with documented results
  • Good understanding of CCD operation would be an advantage
