- Titlee2v invited to sit on the UK Fusion Advisory Board
- Date28 August 2007
Dr Paul John, Technology Manager at e2v, has accepted an invitation to sit on the UK Fusion Advisory Board, formally constituted by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), to advise on the UK Fusion Programme and the UK's participation in international projects.

e2v has a long established relationship with the high-energy physics community, reflected in the high level of knowledge and experience existing within the company, and recognised through this appointment.
The board meets several times a year, at Culham Laboratories, under the chair of Prof. Sue Ion of British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL), and consists of nominated officials from EPSRC, UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), together with independent academics and independent industrialists/non-academics, helping drive forward action on science and industry outreach.
Fusion technology has many overlapping requirements, particularly in the area of very high power Radio Frequency (RF) energy power. Paul John’s position on the advisory board will help ensure that the fusion research base and, through e2v, the high power RF and instrumentation industrial bases, are more closely aware of their respective requirements and capabilities during the steady progress towards the development of fusion power. In the short to medium term this will be focused on the requirements for sensors, RF active and RF passive systems into fusion programs such as MAST and ITER.
Dr Paul John commented on his appointment: “I am delighted to be invited to represent e2v and industry and to sit on this EPSRC advisory board”.
Dr. Trevor Cross, Group Chief Technology Officer at e2v added, “e2v is very keen to contribute in such ways towards enabling the best progress in this important area and to ensure that the UK, and UK industry, benefits to the maximum extent as fusion moves out of the pure research phase"
