- TitleArgus®3 TIC to help rescue missing people in Essex
- Date21 January 2005
e2v technologies has donated an award winning Argus® thermal imaging camera to Essex Search and Rescue, to assist them in finding missing people quickly and safely.
Originally produced for fire-fighting, the Argus® thermal imaging camera will detect the body heat of a missing person which is displayed on the camera screen, leading the Essex Search and Rescue team directly to the missing person in the quickest time possible.
e2v technologies is also donating a REDS (Radio Evacuation and Distress System) device, a radio alarm system which will enable members of the Essex Search and Rescue team to communicate with the Search Manager while on a search mission.
Ron Westrup, Search Manager at Essex Search and Rescue, says 'We are very grateful to e2v technologies for their kind donation of an Argus® thermal imaging camera and REDS device. Thousands of people are reported missing in Essex every year, and while most of them turn up, sadly some don't. Those classified as vulnerable, due to illness, age or mental condition are especially at risk and these are the people that we are called to search for. This equipment is an extremely important contribution to our search and rescue efforts within Essex'
This is the second donation of a thermal imaging camera that e2v has recently made. In November, e2v technologies donated an Argus® thermal imaging camera to the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, to assist them in the protection of both visitors and aircraft in the event of a fire.
e2v technologies has been producing Argus® thermal imaging cameras for over 20 years and is the official supplier of thermal imaging cameras to fire-fighters in the UK.
In 2003, e2v launched its new Argus®3 thermal imaging camera - the most advanced firefighting and rescue camera in the world. Argus®3 camera has since won 6 awards for design and innovation and continues to be one of the most popular thermal imaging cameras available on the market.
