About Us

Our Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide.

e2v has been monitoring its Carbon Footprint for several years in order
to reduce the impact our business has on the environment. Our calculations encompass all of our business operations within the Group.

Both Group and local targets have been set with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint by 12% from 2008 through to 2012 (av 3% p/a). In addition, an internal assurance process was introduced to provide rigour to both data collection and analysis.

e2v Group Carbon Footprint - normalised against turnover (kg CO2e/£k):

2007 2008/ 09 2009/ 10 2010/ 11
111.4 98.55 103.20 92.29

What do we measure?

In order to calculate our carbon footprint, we look at various activities within the business, and use this data to monitor and manage our greenhouse gas emissions. We look at the following:

  • Electricity Consumption
  • Gas Consumption
  • Heating Oil Consumption
  • Water Usage
  • Air Travel
  • Car Travel
  • Paper Usage
  • Waste production
  • Recycling / Reuse

CO2 emissions are calculated on a monthly basis, and our performance against target measured against our rolling plan for progressive reduction.

Recognition of Environmental Achievements

Environmental Index:

The Business in the Community (BiTC) Environmental Index is the UK’s leading environmental benchmark. It can also be used as a framework of best practice for shaping our approach to environmental issues as well as a means to benchmark against peer companies.

e2v first entered the Environment Index in 2008 and achieved a score of 52%. Further benchmarks were completed in 2009 and 2011, with great results:

 2008        2009 2011
52% 94% - Gold Award 95% - Platinum Award

Sunday Times Best Green Companies 2011:

e2v completed a submission for this competition for the first time in 2011, and we were pleased to be told that we have been included in the fourth annual edition of The Sunday Times 60 Best Green Companies.

The submission is comprised of two parts:

  • The Environmental Performance made up 70% of the score and was an extensive audit of company policies, systems, controls and performance metrics
  • The Employee Survey made up 30% of the score and is unique to the Sunday Times as it is the only award to ask employees what they think about their company's environmental performance, policies and procedures and how they filter through onto the shop floor. At e2v 385 employees took part in the survey and can be proud that they contributed to this award.
