e2v recognises that greenhouse gas emissions and climate change are issues which affect the company, our local and wider communities, and our employees and their families. A vital part of ensuring that our environmental objectives and principles are both understood and adopted is clear and targeted communication.
A vital part of our Bright Green initiative is communication and the involvement of our employees in achieving our environmental objectives. As such, the company ensures that all employees are kept well informed:
Induction
On entering the company all employees, apprentices, and agency staff etc are provided with an update on Bright Green – the company's environmental programme.
Each e2v site has its own environmental communication programme involving a variety of communication channels such as:
Business TV
HS&E Committees
Notice boards
Team briefs
Videos/DVDs
Environmental briefings
Scorecard reviews
Intranet
Company magazine
These are used to encourage discussion on current issues, raise the profile of initiatives, encourage engagement and to generate ideas.
All employees are encouraged to contribute ideas that may reduce environmental impacts. Contributions may be through departmental managers or by using the bright.green@e2v.com e-mail.
Employees are encouraged to get involved in environmental achieves, at work e.g. energy audits, at home e.g. calculating individual carbon footprints and in the community (eg supporting conservation projects).
As part of this process all employees are given a personal carbon footprint calculator to work out their home footprint and encourage a holistic approach to environmental awareness.
The calculator can be downloaded from here.
e2v also recognises the importance of our relationship with the communities in which our sites are located, and with wider interest groups and stakeholders.
This web site is part of a process of increasing our level of communications with these groups, specifically on environmental matters. We are also taking part in the Business in the Community (BITC) 2009 environmental index to challenge our practices, provide a framework around which we can measure improvements in our environmental impact, benchmark our activities and become more transparent in both our successes and open in areas where we need to do more.
